World War II Photos

The photos below have never been published, to my knowledge. A friend lent them to me, and I scanned them in so they could be shared on the net.

They all seem to be from a sea battle in the Pacific, taken from what seems to be the deck of an American carrier in the midst of the action.

I recently received a very gratifying email from Mr. Anthony Lovell, as follows:
"The anti-aircraft one is the only one with any doubt, but the other 3 photos appear to be taken from the escort carriers of Taffy 3 during the extremely dramatic Battle off Samar, a subbattle of Leyte Gulf. They are under fire from cruisers and battleships, including perhaps Yamato in the photos shown. The one showing planes on deck while the men watch the fate of the ship behind them is a wonderful human document, as their concern is palpable."
